Madonna sings theme song for Kimutaku drama
March 16, 2008
Pop star Madonna is now connected to one of Japan's biggest celebrities. It was announced on Sunday that she is providing the theme song for the upcoming Takuya Kimura drama series that will air on Fuji TV. This is reportedly the first time one of her songs will be used as the theme for a television series.
Production staff for the drama, titled "CHANGE," wanted a major international artist to do the theme song. Thinking they had nothing to lose, they made an offer last December to Madonna, who happened to be working on her new album, "Hard Candy." After hearing about the drama's story and seeing the staff's enthusiasm, she accepted the offer and created the ballad "Miles Away."
"CHANGE" stars Kimura as an elementary school teacher who gets thrown into the political arena and winds up becoming the Prime Minister of Japan. Eri Fukatsu co-stars as his secretary. Other cast members include Hiroshi Abe as Kimura's election planner, Rosa Kato as a campaign assistant, and Akira Terao as the ruling party's general council chairman.
The drama will air on Mondays at 9:00pm, starting next month.

The newest issue of women's fashion magazine anan has the results of its annual survey asking readers to name their favorite male celebrity. For the 15th year in a row, SMAP member Takuya Kimura led the list, taking the largest chunk of the more than 17,000 votes sent in by mail and the internet.
Kimura also repeated last year's feat of ranking highest in four other categories: Man I'd Most Like to Sleep With, Man I'd Most Want as a Boyfriend, Sexiest Man, and Most Stylish Man.
The four other members of SMAP all ranked within the top 12. Out of the top 30, 18 of the men are affiliated with Johnny's Jimusho.
Here's the full top 30 list, according to Nikkan Sports:

Re: J-Star: 木村拓哉 Kimura Takuya
Bubu, thanks for the info about the anan survey! Wow, what an honor for Kimura Takuya to be named anan's favorite man for fifteen years in a row. He deserves it though, since he's such a excellent actor and has done a great job in so many different roles. I think he's one of Japan's best actors of all time.
Looks like Naogoro (Eita) made it onto the list as well! He's ranked #17. I think he's really started to become a popular actor also after starring in Atsu-hime and Nodame Cantabile.

Re: J-Star: 木村拓哉 Kimura Takuya
Much water has flowed under many bridges since last posting here.
I have been busy with life and also with researching lots of Japanese taigas and history. Japanese history is a passion. Same with Korean.
Kimura san is going strong. SMAP is now on a concert tour. They are all well into their thirties but all seem to retain splendid energy.
All fo the members do other programmes beside the weekly SMAP. They do films, and Kimura recently finished one called 'Moon Lovers'
It was a disappointment to many including me. I don't think he liked it either. Much too much fuss about a Taiwanese model who can't act her way out of a paper bag. Not the success that Kimura usually commands.
He had turned down the Ryomaden and seemed to regret it later. He looks marvellous during the concerts of course. Younger than ever. How do they all do this. SMAP is going to do a big two nights of concerts in Shanghai in October.

Re: J-Star: 木村拓哉 Kimura Takuya
It's great to hear that Kimura Takuya's career is still going strong. He's such an excellent entertainer, and I'm glad that he is continuing to be very popular, especially in his musical career.
I remember hearing about how Kimura Takuya was offered a role in Ryomaden and turned it down, but it was quite a while ago and I don't seem to remember all the details of it. Was he offered the starring role as Sakamoto Ryoma and turned it down?

Re: J-Star: 木村拓哉 Kimura Takuya
Yes Hiroshi, that is what I understood. He was talking with his manager and the company about doing Ryomaden. He would have played the lead. Then there was a discussion arising from fans pleading for him to do a love story or romance. He has not done one for so many years. He is getting older and he wants to change his style every time he does a drama but of course he is still very attractive and so they decided to do this drama Moon Lover.
For some reason they made a big thing about getting Chi Ling from Taiwan to play a leading role. She has only ever acted once before in Red Cliffs I believe and was not very good altho the film was good. Anyway they paid her a lot of money and gave her the best hotels to stay and made it very easy for her to agree. Unfortunately she was pretty bad and it got to be a boring effort for the rest of the really experienced Japanese cast. In the end they re- arranged the plot so that she did not have as much dialogue. She cannot speak Japanese and every sentence was uttered without much expression and veerryy slowly. Painful..There were three leading ladies and she lost out in the end....
Now of course Fukayama is doing very well with the lead in Ryomaden and it is getting rave reviews.
Incidentally I saw a pleasant hour long show with Fukayama and a couple of hosts of the show 'Top Runner'.(on NHK I think) They were out in the woods and having a meal in a very nice wooden house.... sort of log cabin but a Japanese style house. I think mainly they were discussing music and his composing and he was obviously very comfortable playing his guitar very well and singing a little. He was quite charming.Would have been nice to have English sub titles.

Re: J-Star: 木村拓哉 Kimura Takuya
Thanks for the information, Peggy! Wow, how interesting that Kimura Takuya was considering taking the leading role as Sakamoto Ryoma in the Ryomaden Taiga. I wonder how he would have have portrayed Ryoma in the drama. Fukuyama Masaharu is an excellent actor, as well, and I'm really glad that he's playing Ryoma in our current Taiga. It's the first time I'm seeing him in a drama, and I've really gotten used to his portrayal of Ryoma. Fukuyama really fits right into the role, doesn't he? He's a great entertainer.
Yep, like Kimura Takuya, Fukuyama also seems to have quite a popular career as a musician, in addition to his acting career.

Re:
My apologies to Vannessave...and also my thanks and admiration for this wonderful collection of information on Takuya Kimura.
This is the very first time I have seen all this and I am overwhelmed. I still love this artist and he is still doing very well. In fact his latest drama 'At Home ' is showing at nine pm. on NHK channel every Thursday. He has become somewhat older but still looks good and in this role he has cut his hair which is quite a change for him.
SMAP is still a regular weekly show in Japan and all the members do all sorts of dramas and other shows. they are probably going to go on as favourites forever I think.
n
Once more forgive me for not acknowledging this lovely collection of information about my truly favourite Actor/singer/dancer/ etc etc etc...

I really think my brain skipped a year at least. I did not remember this Kimura subject at all.I thought I had missed something special and could not understand why. I really love this artist and I am now relieved to read more of this and see that I did indeed previously say thanks by replying to the many posts. I am getting very old and my memory is still good but I think being dead for thirty minutes shut down some of my brain cells last year. Forgive me.

Peggy-san, it's no problem at all! Yes, you've indeed contributed to this thread quite a bit in the past, but I'm sure it was a pleasant surprise to come back after all this time and go through the wonderful collection of information once again, as if it were brand new. We're very glad to have you back with us here on CJK!
