posticon J-Star: 阿部寛 Abe Hiroshi

Hiroshi Abe (阿部 寛, Abe Hiroshi?, born June 22, 1964) is a Japanese model and actor. He was born in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. He began his career as a model, but he successfully made the transition to acting, becoming one of the most regularly visible presences in Japanese media. He is a 1988 graduate of Chuo University.

His modeling debut was in March 1985, winning "Shueisha 3rd Nonno Boyfriend Champion" (Nonno was one of the most popular Japanese teen magazines). He showed up regularly on Nonno's cover, and when "Men's Nonno" premiered, he was the cover model for the first 43 issues. He is noted for his height, as most Japanese actors are much shorter.

His sense of humor got him noticed as more than just a pretty face, and he was soon making regular appearances on popular Fuji TV noontime variety show "Waratte Iitomo", in the "cool guys" section. In 1988, during his last year of college, he made his first foray into professional acting with the movie "Haikara-san Ga Touru" ("Trendy Girl Passes By"). It was a bumpy start, but he showed a special talent for comedic roles, and he was soon one of Japan's leading actors. He has appeared in dozens of television shows, movies, commercials, and stage dramas.

Had to go ahead and make a page for the last part but the favorite part of my son's acting trifecta (Abe, Yukie, Etsushi). We are working our way through his vast library.

vannessave Thanks for starting the Hiroshi Abe thread. He's a favorite of mine too. Your son and I have similar tastes.

Taitei-no-ken looks like it should be pretty good, I see it teams up Abe with his Dragon Zakura co-star, Kyoko Hasegawa (Oishii Proposal).

His recently released comedy Bubble e Go! Time Machine wa Doramu Shiki sounds like another funny one. His co-star in this is Ryoko Hirosue, another one of my favorites.

* The picture on the main page cracked me up... look at the the present day cell phone that Ryoko is holding compared to the gigantic one from the 90's that Hiroshi is using. emoticon

This movie is about the time travel to the 1990 in Japan, where Japan had the Bubble economy... It's set on March 2007. In the movie, Japan has a financial crisis like it has 800 trillion yen debt. One guy(Hiroshi Abe) who works for the Finance Ministry asks the daughter(Ryoko Hirosue)of the inventor(Hiroko Yakushimaru) of the time machine to go to the 1990 to save her mother, who hasn't come back to the present and stop the breakdown of the Japan's bubble economy.

You know I thought the female costar for this movielooked familiar and I was going to do a search. I am really hoping to get a chance for my son to see this. I bet he wouldn't even mind seeing it without subtitles.

I admit the pictures for this show definitely has me laughing. I came across an article about the movie on cinema cafe. Here's some pictures of the cast

I would say he does alot of comedy but can do serious also like in Hasami Otoko

I just wanted to say that I'm a fan of Abe. I've seen him in Trick movie, Trick 3, Tokyo Raiders,Hasami Otoko, and Dragon Zakura. I'm glad he has a page now just have to translate what his new movie is called, I'm not sure about the "tei" kanji meaning.
