Gokusen 3 confirmed for spring!
http://www.ntv.co.jp/gokusen/
December 12, 2007
Rumors of a third season of the Gokusen drama series were confirmed on Wednesday. Yukie Nakama will reprise her role as the teacher Kumiko Yamaguchi (affectionately known as Yankumi).
Based on a manga by Kozueko Morimoto, Gokusen has already had two previous seasons. The first, in 2002, averaged ratings of 17.4%, while the 2005 sequel averaged ratings of 28.0%.
The third series will premiere in April on NTV, though the specific time slot has not yet been announced. Casting for the students will be decided around the end of this year.

Thanks for the Gokusen information. I'm wondering who they'll choose for the students. I'm thinking probably some of the new crop of young singers will be among them

Synopsis
Kumi Hatakeyama (Yukie Nakama) is a police officer of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), who’s only skilled at shooting. She has just been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Section at Higurashi Police Station after working eight years in the Community Police Affairs Division and stationed at a police box.
She immediately starts working under a veteran investigator, Hanako Sakura (Pinko Izumi), who is notorious for “crushing” her subordinates. Hanako begins training Kumi in her usual style, but is tormented by Kumi’s helplessness. Kumi’s a terrible driver, gives critiques of movies when she’s supposed to be obtaining information during an investigation, drives a criminal into a corner but ends up letting him slip through, etc. Everything Kumi does gets in the way of Hanako, who has the highest arrest rate within her department.
But seeing Kumi passionately working on cases and making strenuous efforts during investigations, Hanako rediscovers her feelings of when she became a cop – something she has long forgotten. While calling Hanako “an old hag,” Kumi gradually becomes influenced by Hanako, which helps her to mature as a cop.
There’s also Momoe Iwashiro (Nagisa Katahira), Kumi’s ex-instructor at the police academy whom she looks up to, and Pak Ji-wong (Ryu Siwong), a young Korean man who is staying at Hanako’s home. He’s the only person Hanako opens her heart to and treats him like her own son. Also working with Kumi and Hanako to solve a mysterious serial murder case are the members of their police station and the MPD.
*****
Nakama plays an enthusiastic rookie cop whose only strong point is her marksmanship, while Izumi plays a veteran detective with the #1 arrest rate. The two work together to solve crimes, despite differences in their ways of thinking. -- Tokyograph

Re: J-Star: 仲間由紀惠 (なかま ゆきえ) Nakama Yukie
Thanks for posting the front pages, bubu! They look great.
Looks like Gokusen 3 just premiered yesterday in Japan (April 19th Japanese time). I wonder how it'll be received there. This is the second time that Yukie has worked on three seasons of a particular drama, her first time was with Trick, where she and Abe Hiroshi worked on three seasons of Trick (as well as two movies and one special). Same with Gokusen!

Re: J-Star: 仲間由紀惠 (なかま ゆきえ) Nakama Yukie
I've recently downloaded the first Gokusen series, have watched through the first four episodes, and I have to say; I love this actress!!! She's so much fun to watch whether she's being cute, funny, tough, or foolish.... I love it when she nearly blows her cover by occasionally uttering gangster slang while those around her stare blankly with mouthes agape. The fact that her students see her as some kind of a "plain-Jane" simply because of her style of dress and she hides her face behind an oversized pair of glasses while we, the viewers, get to see her looking ravishing at home amongst her "family" with her hair down and her actual personality in full flight just cracks me up. Really enjoying her thus far. Thanks to Hiroshi, bubu, vannessa, anonymousafro and the rest of you for leading my path to her!!
