J-Movie: さとうきび畑の唄 (The Song of a Sugarcane Field)
Okay, I saw this commerical two times, one when I was watching Musashi on Saturday and one when I was watching Trick 2 on Sunday. There's supposedly going to be a movie airing on KSCI at 8:30 on New Year's Eve.
It's called the "Sugarcane Candy Song" or something, the name escapes me, and it's about an Okinawan family during the last days of the war. Does anyone know anything else about it?

Re: Movie: The Song of a Sugarcane Field (12/31 only)
edited the heading of the thread a bit =)
I watched the trailer closely, and guess what?! Yukie Nakama, Joe Odagiri, and Kenji Sakaguchi are in it! I believe the movie will last 3 hrs?
oh and a bit offtopic, but here's info on 4 of next season's FujiTV dramas:
Pride (Takuya Kimura, Yuko Takeuchi, Kenji Sakaguchi, Noriko Nakagoshi, Ryuta Sato, Somegoro Ichikawa, Koichi Sato)
Fire Boys (Takayuki Yamada, Rina Uchiyama, Mimura, Takashi Tsukamoto...)
Love and Hatred (Nanako Okouchi, Maju Ozawa, Maiko Kawakami, Satoshi Jimbo...)
The Way We Live (Tsuyoshi Kusanagi, Koyuki, Mikihisa Azuma, Sayaka Yamaguchi, Jun Kaname...)
I wonder what will get aired here in SoCal (w/o eng subs)

Wow, Yukie-san's in it? YES! She surely likes playing roles of people from the Ryukus, is she there herself?
BTW, thanks for editing it.

Yeah, so I guess I really have to learn Japanese a lot more faster. Isn't there a request for subtitles or something that we can do for those of us who do not know Japanese perfectly>

Re: Movie: The Song of a Sugarcane Field (12/31 only)
Some years back, I think “Nippon Golden Network” (or one of those subtitling companies, based in Hawaii) was English-subtitling many of the Fuji-TV dramas for American viewing. And then I recall Fuji-TV issuing an official edit *forbidding* the subtitling of their dramas, on the grounds that they were being broadcast in America solely for viewing by Japanese nationals who were living in the USA. And they haven’t been subtitled since.
I really don’t get their hard-assed attitude, unless some of the Japanese nationals found the subtitles annoying, and complained to Fuji-TV about it. In any case, their decision really stinks from my viewpoint!

Well, that shows another example of Japanese racism to Americans or other foreigners living in the U.S.A. I don't know why they have this kind of attitude.
