Re: K-Star: 권 상우 (Kwon, Sang-woo)
Looks like BS Fuji has decided to make itself into the Kwon, Sang-woo channel. Look at their Korean drama page. It just has links to the KSW shows they air plus a KSW profile.
Currently, BS Fuji is showing Stairway to Heaven (new, not on the Korean drama page above but included in their fuller drama page), Into the Sun, and Sad Love Song.

Re: K-Star: 권 상우 (Kwon, Sang-woo)
Fan music video by Tukimi. (Anyone know the name of the singer—I presume she's Japanese?)
And my favorite picture of him, just for the heck of it....

Re: K-Star: 권 상우 (Kwon, Sang-woo)
nchristi I totally adore that awesome picture of KSW in the falling snow -- wish I could have been there! That pic is one of my favs.
meantime . . . VOTE FOR KSW'S STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN in YesAsia's poll -- all they require is a legitimate email address and this poll is going on for several months, with a winner posted monthly PLUS they are awarding prizes to some lucky voters . . .

Re: K-Star: 권 상우 (Kwon, Sang-woo)
Love your new avatar, star1.
You know, one of the things that I find rather unusual about KSW is that he is equally photogenic while smiling or not. Most people have a stronger presence either smiling, or not smiling. KSW is electric either way. Love that fire that burns within.
Which reminds me.... Years ago I came across a small poem by a famous Russian writer. Through the years I've lost track of the clipping and have tried my darnedest to track this down on the Internet, but no luck. (Anybody out there familiar with this?)
It questions the substance of beauty. Is beauty the vessel, an exquisite vase we come upon? Or is beauty the fire that burns within that vessel?
I've never been able to see people who are "ugly" inside as beautiful, or even attractive, no matter how perfectly they may fit the world's standard of physical beauty. On the other hand, I have known any number of individuals who, by society's standards are "unattractive" physically, yet incredibly beautiful and captivating by virtue of the glory of their inner fire...a fire that cannot be faked or imitated.
Then there are those few who are a convergence of both. Kwon Sang Woo is one of those. Beautiful, entrancing fire of the spirit burning within a physical presence that is a work of art. Both a blessing and a curse.

Re: K-Star: 권 상우 (Kwon, Sang-woo)
nchristi Your pen flows with words of truth pertaining to the human spirit. I've always believed inner beauty is something which cannot be faked and we know in a heartbeat what is real and what is not.
If anybody out there knows of the poem nchristi speaks of, please post.
Your description of Kwon Sang Woo is wonderful.
Kwon Sang Woo has a beautiful spirit and he was blessed with an amazing heart.
btw -- thnx for great pix; the children's faces and big smiles say it all! Hugs . . . hugs . . . hugs for them.

Re: K-Star: 권 상우 (Kwon, Sang-woo)
Yep, sure did. Glasses seem to be the big trend in Korea these days. (I think I prefer KSW's look without.)
I actually bought his older movie depicting the tough life in high school in 1978. It is a special edition advertised on YesAsia, containing a second DVD (the usual director's cut type disk). I was quite surprised. I hadn't bought it before because I don't like violent movies and was afraid I'd really hate the thing. Surprisingly, it didn't bother me much at all, the violence not the graphic gore so often portrayed. The story was very different from what I thought it would be from the clips I had seen elsewhere (had substance). Quite a good movie—much better than I was expecting.
It was also very interesting to see the making of the film. Those actors in the martial arts scenes go through a lot of pain and agony (and injury) making those films. I saw a news item recently that Korean film crews are only now forming a union to combat the exploitation they feel they are subjected to—endless hours of work, dangerous conditions, and so forth.
On the picture of KSW with the baby, yes, it is from the same series of pictures where he is photographed with a number of disabled children. The baby he is holding has had open heart surgery, as can be seen from the horrible scar on his/her chest. I love that photo because it shows the depth of feeling KSW has for that circumstance. He is very tender in his holding of the baby, yet his expression depicts, to me, the gravity of this tiny person's circumstance in life. I have often wondered if this child is without parents, in an institution of some sort.
