Kubozuka Yousuke
One of my most favorite Japanese actors is Kubozuka Yousuke. He's been in several jdramas and a few really great movies (Ping Pong, Laundry, Go) Here's an article I found on his return to the screen after his nine-story fall.

That's pretty cool. Yousuke-san must have recovered fast! LOL.

Re: Kubozuka Yousuke
He must be a pretty interesting character. I went to a couple of his websites to see if I recognize him, but I don't think so. Though his "official" PR says it was an accidental fall, the general consensus is that it was a suicide attempt. To quote one newspaper account (uncited):classblockquote A fence about 9 meters away from the apartment cushioned his fall before he landed on a patch of grass. He must have been traveling at a huge speed when he jumped to have been able to hit that fence before reaching the ground. If he'd only fallen, as his handlers claim, he would have landed just a few meters away from the apartment at best.
His injuries - center; the wire fence that cushioned his fall (I presume) - right

Yeah, there is lots of conjecture about why he fell/jumped. I'm just glad he's back to acting. If you're not familiar with his work, I really suggest Ping Pong. It's just fun and probably has the best sound track of any movie I've seen. His characters are usually people on the fringes of 'normal/regular' society. Also, Go is an interesting movie about a N. Korean student whose family lives in Japan. He attends a N. Korean school and falls in love with a Japanese girl. Kubo is the student. In Laundry, he is a slow-witted young man who is left on his own when his aunt dies. He meets some interesting people. Unfortunately, these films are region coded and I'm not sure where you can get a hold of them. In his dramas, he seems to play the rich, aloof, I-hate-my-family-but-enjoy-the-money-silent-type. Completely different than his film roles.

Re: Kubozuka Yousuke
That movie where he plays a North Korean student sounds great.

Agreed! That seems to be the case. There are tragic cases too, of course.

Re: Kubozuka Yousuke
Wow, I haven't heard of any of the dramas on that list except GTO. Is Wakaba no koro another name for the current asadora, Wakaba?
