Re: 遊☆戯☆王 デュエルモンスターズ (Yu-Gi-Oh!)

I don't think age has anything to do with it. In fact, I feel its an excuse. Anyone can be at any age to watch anime. I just don't like it.

Re: 遊☆戯☆王 デュエルモンスターズ (Yu-Gi-Oh!)

I am a BIG fan of Yugioh. Just not the english dubbed Yugioh. Because it is evil =O

Bad voices, bad editing, stupid dubbed names, and oh, yeah, editing. When I watch it, it's more to make fun of it than anything =\

And as for dvds that cost cheaper than what I think, like, 29.95 for a three-dvd boxset. Anime Toxic I love this site, personally. Great imports for a good price. I was able to get InuYasha the first two movies, in one dvd for the price of 9.99 emoticon Before it was ever released in America. Although the subtitles are a little.... Eh... But, you know what's going on.

And also, for the reason that the manga and tv version is different, it's simple. See, there's an unaired first season of Yugioh, that more resembles the first books of the manga ( which I love, btw ) and, the actual aired first season, isnt' really the beginning of the Yugioh: Duel Monsters series. I guess they just wanted to go straight to the action, so they went to the Duelist Kingdom arc.

I rather like the manga... Because it gives me more of an insight on the character than the duels, ya know? And the Japanese version is WAY better than the English Version... Better voices, uneditied... And Jonouchi/Joey doesn't have that awful New York accent and Yami/Atemu/Mou Hitori no Boku doesn't have that AWFUL voice that makes him sound like he's 40 emoticon!

I think it's interesting how in English, it's usually the TV series that's considered “canon”, whereas when a Japanese anime deviates from a manga, those anime episodes are often called “filler”.

Yes, the first season of Yugioh which was made up of 27 episodes but which didn't too well in Japan. Back when I was REALLY into these sorts of anime, I did my fair share of research. ^^

That is true... But it's sort of true. I'm not all quite sure just how the whole manga/anime thing work, I just know that most anime are a manga first, or...durring it.... Gah, I don't know. But... It seems that the creators of manga controll the manga. When the manga turns into an anime, they sort of loose rights or something along the lines of that... I think that was the case of Yugioh: Duel Monsters.

Heh, this sort of reminds me of this other board I go to, Yugioh-related. I have been downloading unsubtitled episodes of Yugioh GX, the series after Duel Monsters, and there are SO many people going, "GX has no plot! It's just filler episodes!" ...... It's the first season. It's CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT! emoticon Meh! I like filler episodes and character development. Yes, the duels are entertaining too... *collects Yugioh cards, she admits!*

emoticon! Lucky, I found out in a random yahoo chat! Then I got a hold of the first three episodes.... Different voices, but not bad, but I wonder....

.... WHY DIDN'T IT GO WELL IN JAPAN?!

I loved those episodes! They were good! I loved Miho-chan/Ribbon-chan and Honda was so cute being all in love with her! And Yuugi's voice was SO CUUUTE. .... Atemu ( ...I call him Atemu, I refuse to say Yami and Mou hitori no Yuugi is too long for me. *lazy*) ....well. He got the possessed look right emoticon But he still rocked. And the colors.... *giggles at remembering Green-haired Seto Kaiba... and then shudders at him...SMILING which is just wierd.*

Season 1 seemed to actually be more character development if anything. That's why people must have not liked it.

I for one dislike Yugioh. While many dislike it because they find it too much like Pokemon - I do like Pokemon and just find Yugioh to be too dark yet too light for people who like dark anime. Its just never catered to me.. but I am sure the original version is better than the dub I've seen.
Well, the english version is dumed down a bit so it's not to scary for little kids, i prefer the japanese to the english one because nothing is left out in the japanese one.

Thank you

Unfortunately, that is true of most of the anime shown over the air or on basic cable. emoticon

LOL, unfortunately. Black Jack has a pretty honest dub, I think.
