What a great group. Shows what a strong bond these Kdramas can form with people. People come together and are friends because of watching the same show. You know, some people wouldn't understand that. I mean, would anyone have the desire to meet one another if this were 'All My Children' or 'One Life to Live' we were watching? I think not. (i should have been there)Yes, nSheldon, you are so right. I have stopped telling friends about the meeting because they just could not understand. But for me, I found so many people who have the same passion as I do for BB and that feeling was just so good. I wanted to spend at least a few minutes with everyone one on one, but it didn happen. There were still so many questions, comments, and ideas I wanted to talk to everyone about? I have to be satisfied with the fact that I did spend some time with friends and family enjoying good food, drink, and conversation, although it was waaay too short. And, The MAN HIMSELF was there! ccwf (Charles) graced us with his presence! I hope all of you reading this forum know that without his auspice, this and the other CKJ forums wouldn exist! Of course there are others who contribute to this success, there the legendary creidesca, nchristi,?too many to list them all, but we all owe them a great big THANK YOU! I hope some of them go to our get-togethers so we may thank them in person. And, for those of you that did not attend?. Do not believe the tabloids! Don believe any rumors about us dancing on the tabletops, or ?. as our slogan says, What happens in the BB family, stays in the BB family. uff said. I did take pictures, or rather my wife Diana did, but most duplicated all the wonderful images we have already seen from some of the other attendees. And the others?well, just remember our slogan. I do have a group picture in PDF format that has most of the attendees in it, along with their screen name and eal?name. It fills an 8.5 x 11 in. page nicely and should print on about any printer without adjustment. But, PDF is not one of the supported upload formats. I haven't really discussed the last week..I am still digesting it . I am like patiently ,though . The sooner we get the dvd's ,the better !! Then we'll start to talk about it again !! She gets up and goes to her room as soon as my Kshows start. I told her she would be hooked if she would just watch a few episodes. My entire family, all my friends... they can't understand the connection, or whatever it is, that I have with these shows. It really isn't something you can make another understand. It's just something that came about accidentally. Mine started many many years ago. There was no cable tv then. I probably found it on KCET. Channel 28 around here. It was a Japanese film, w/Eng subs. I was facinated by it. Then nothing for years and years. About 10 or 12 years ago I came across another asian show. This one was Korean. I didn't realize it was on each nite... OR that it had an ending. So I only watched periodically and missed the last few shows. To this day I wonder how it ended. After that, I just stuck like glue to the shows and found out the days/hours of the one I was watching. Then a friend at work told me about this board. She watches the Japanese dramas but told me the board also had discussions on Chinese and Korean programs. Anyway, that's how I found my way to Korean Drama Heaven! Oh, I have been watching the 'Screening Humanity'... I am glad it is going to show different aspects of Korean life. Last nite was the girl who wants to be a singer. She is half Korean (by her mother), who had divorced the girls father when the girl was only 3 yrs old. The father was black. The girl looks more black than Korean. She has a step father (Korean) who she loves as her own father. He loves her as his own child. Very strong loving family... It's like getting an education on Korean Culture.... class blockquote hyena wrote: I haven't been watching Screening Humanity, except for bits and pieces. In a way, it's good to have a break from TV watching. At one time during BB, I was watching 4 dramas (like emceema) bouncing around like a yo-yo. I have spent an incredible amount of time trying to figure out why I watch these. I do love learning new things so that's part of it. I do like the less than overt sex as a general rule. What's funny is that I kept wishing the lovers, in whichever drama, would actually kiss or at least hug each other. In this season alone, I've seen more kisses than in all the years I've been watching, and I don't know that I like the trend! Contradictory and inconsistent as usual, that's me. But other than figuring out a few points like that, I have not been able to figure out what draws me to these dramas. I never became hooked on US soaps, but I have friends who did and still are. Even when I don't become hooked on a specific drama, I still prefer watching Asian programming to US programming. class blockquote ccwf wrote: class blockquote nchristi wrote: class blockquote Brad6 wrote: This is certainly a very close knit group but it is not just for the Bizarre Bunch is it... we do have a link with one another that carries through all sorts of subjects and all because we are the Bizarre Kdrama Bunch. While there is a special, intimate connection within the "BB Family," it is only a part of the greater family, CJK. I would also like to mention that while we are grateful to ccwf for his abundant and overflowing creative talents and devotion to keeping CJKDramas both "cutting edge" and afloat, this board would not exist had it not been created and maintained by creidesca. Ccwf ,whatever with the pictures ,but doesn't Philly have their own board ?? I should know - the only time I lurked was the day our board was down ,and I went all over the country and the world looking for BB sites ....and I learned that our board was simply - the best . At the BB family meeting ,we shared " how I got hooked on Kdrama "stories . For the benefit of people that weren't there that day : here is my story . I was in Hawaii 2 years ago visiting family . I was on the North Shore of Oahu ,and it was evening .My young niece needed to rest , and we turned on the TV . We were surfing channels , and "Sweet 18 " was on . I was instantly hooked . I found out the DVD's were available ,and ordered them from a payphone in the airport . When I got home to LA ,I surfed the cable til I found KBSLA. I have been watching the 8:30 daily - MSMD ,and now BB. I found this board at the end of MSMD . I wouldn't have missed watching BB with you all for the world . Since I have been seeing a few more series ...but I am still a relative newbie . In the beginning of BB , I got hooked because of the character of Kiwoong . I always cared what happened to him ... That is hilarious comparing Gram to Gollum- but I don't think she is thin enough !! Good night ps ashwini - we always respected differences of opinion( you didn't like the music ?) class blockquote hyena wrote: Welcome, ashwini, and to your mom and aunt, too. addie, I think I mentioned that I got hooked on asian drama when I got a new TV, and the korean channels came in the clearest. I don't have cable or anything fancy--a 13 inch color TV, that's it!, although I now have two TVs--one to watch, and one connected to a DVD player that I hacked so I can watch Region 2 and 3 DVDs. Imagine, I did that, and I was so dumb with the clicker that my sister had to set up the TV for me. Well, I do learn. My best story, though, is this. My sister and I (Czech-German descent) were attending a Hindu wedding. At our table was a neighbor, another Hindu lady. Turns out she was a kdrama addict like me. My sister, who thinks I'm nuts regardless, thought it hilarious that she was attending such a wedding and the talk around her was about korean drama! Gee, that was fun. My neighbor had been in India and had missed a several episodes, so I was filling her in. I think that's one of the things that attracts me--the mix of cultures and that korean dramas are welcomed in so many places (Winter Sonata was broadcast in Egypt where it was a big hit). I know you guys want BB on DVD. What I would like is Mushashi on DVD. Geez, I loved that program. Got me started on kabuki, which I was lucky enough to see last year. Exquisite. I went twice to a 4-night performance. I should have gone all four nights. Dumb. Sorry, I'm talking to much about everything but BB. Very bad day for me, so it's good to come here to be with you guys. ashwini, the music was a bit treacly, but that's sorta typical. I have become a huge fan of the music on these dramas, especially some of the singers. I learned to sing along with some of the songs. I don't know exactly what I'm saying but I've listened so much, I certainly know the words. class blockquote smoochie1 wrote: I started watching KDrama near the end of MSMD. I was channel surfing as usual, because of the terrible selection on broadcast TV and came across this drama and kept watching. I've always loved foreign films (subtitled of course), Italian, French and now Korean. I've been watching BB since the first episode. I enjoy seeing how other cultures live and interplay as a family. I've already incorporated one thing into my home, no shoes. My family now has slippers waiting at the door. Even my 2 year old grandaughter puts her's on. Of course that's a very small thing compared to all else. Now if I could get all of them to bow to me, well that would be something!! class blockquote nsheldon wrote: Welcome to Ashwina! The turn out was 18. I took the train up and was very glad that I did. It made getting home so much nicer and a lot easier. I arrived at the Korea Town Plaza about 11:45. Diane [Cantgetenougf] join me shortly there after. As she walked through the entrance I knew she had to be family. We blew up balloons and attached them to chairs while we were getting aquanted. I was not able to keep track of who showed up at what time. We were joined by Jason [chinohills] his wife and daughter. I meet him on the east coast board, years ago, and it was really good of him to join us. It did not take long for us to start putting more tables together. Altogether we had 4 tables. I am sure the other patrons were wondering what was going on. Some noticed our BB posters and that we had name tags on. They smiled at us as they walked by our tables. The only thing I did not count on was the noise level. It was really loud. Diane, cantgetenougf, kept us on track and we did not start conversation of BB until after 1:00. Everyone was there by 1:30. However, Home Town Station topic came up alot. We then started to get food. Lots of discussions going on. After we ate We started to share our stories about how we got hooked. It was an honor to have Charles with us. He was kind enouf to do a breif Q and A about the board but with the nosie level it was kind of hard. I hope he will join us again with nchriste and nsheldon as well. I will post on the thread about the next gathering. It will take time to set that up and by then we may need to. I would like to do this about every 6 months. Southern California is much bigger area the Philadelphia but with planning I think we can do this and I already have some ideas. So please check into the 'gathering' from time to time. Since meny who were there added to this. I am going to end this tome before I get into trouble. MORE TO COME. I sent her my picture and phone number and you guys plopped me down on the table, hopefully covered me in kalbi (LOL), and EVEN called me up - not just once and oh well, but my house, then my Mom's Bridal headpiece Salon !! nd when I was out for a few minutes when you called, YIZ CAWLED BACK!!!!!!..... I even wound up in the Kool Kajok Rendezvous pic!!!! WEEP, WEEP!!! SO Beautiful! As I tried to hear you all speaking to me, my mom was wondering what I was doing and WHO in the WORLD I was talking to!! My husband and mother got a kick out of the whole deal, so it was doubly nice! AND since I didn't get to tell MY story about how I got hooked on K Dramas, What happened was this: One of our local Public Television stations, WYBE was broadcasting this show late a night - 11:30. So, periodically, I'd be up and my husband would be watching these cats in ancient warrior costumes, speaking a foreign language. It was subtitled (turn-off then). And I said, "WHat in the WORLD are you watching?" He told me it ws a REALLY good show, and that I should watch it. Then he would fill me in a little on what was going on at that point on the program. Well, after a short time, I FINALLY gave in, had a seat and watched an episode. "Not bad.", I thought. Then I watched the NEXT DAY. "REALLY GOOD.", I thought. Well, by the next night, I was TOTALLY HOOKED! That historical drama, of course, was EMPEROR WANG GUN. ANd I loved it SO much, I watched it to the end, then I watched BOTH FULL REBROADCASTS!!!! It took like two years!!! But I was SO glad he asked me to watch!! Then, I found out that there was a daily drama that came on after that. So, I began watching that too. OMG! That drama was So This Is Love. I thought it was the best I'd ever seen, and it is still my favorite, just edging out Yellow Handkerchief And that edges out To Be With You which is in third place. Now, I have Bizarre Bunch to add, and it is my #4. Now, I temper this list in this way - I LOVE Lee Chang Hoon (Min-Jae, One Million Roses)!!! I've loved him from the start!!!! He's my FAVORITE leading Man and I am STILL trying to find another drama he stars in!! ANYONE GOT ONE?! I've seen OMR, TBWY and STIL. More More!! So! Since I'm a Lee Chang Hoon fan, I am a bit more partial to his dramas!!LOL! ANYWAY! I'm hoping we'll be seeing Chill Princesses or The one with the RIVER in the name (thanks Addie!!). But, as I said to Addie, it doesn't matter WHAT we see next here - all I'm hoping is that Addie and BBFANXO will continue recapping and deleted scenes - if they do, then I can just 'READ THE BOOK!' FINALLY! - I was telling Addie during the Rendezvous yesterday, that our station has begun to rebroadcast all the dramas they have shown in their original viewing order. Right now, we are up to My Precious Child (the ony KDrama I actually HATED the ending to). After that will be MSMD, then The Bizarre Bunch It will air each episode in its entirety, so by the I hope/expect to have a DVR and will talk to my Techie Husband about recording the series in its entirety and putting it on discs for you guys. I wouldn't want payment or anything, just a little help with the wholesale cost of the discs and shipping if necessary. So, start savin' Y'all!!! C Yiz Later! class blockquote emceema wrote:   Anyong Haseyo! Good morning BB! It's 6:30 am, Sunday and it was a pleasant surprise to me that you have posted pictures and thoughts about yesterday's gathering! I thought you were all exhausted after yesterday. We went to pick up some Korean food and pastries at the supermarket and the adjacent bakery, after we left the food court. As soon as we got home, I just put the groceries away, laid out the food on the kitchen counter, shouted to everyone at home "get your own food from the kitchen", went to my bedroom, turn on the tv, opened the dvd "Marrying a Millionaire" which I bought from Music Plaza and start watching it. It was 7pm and I finished the first disc (epis. 1 to 3). Switch dvd to Channel 44, watched "Seoul 1945" at 8pm, then switch to Channel 18 at 9pm for "Komyo Ga Tsuji" which ended at 10pm. I had a 15 min. break, washed my face, brushed my teeth, back to my bedroom for the 10:15pm drama "The Infamous Chil Princesses". That, my friends, is the reason why I was not able to post last nite and also I cannot figure out how to upload the pictures to my computer because my son went out last nite and did'nt come back until the wee hours. So when he wakes up today, which is probably late in the day, and as soon as he uploads the pictures, I will post. But I want to express my gratitude and delight to everyone who attended. You guys are exactly what I've expected. How can a group of people with different ethnicity, age, size, color, personality, etc. come together in one place and instantly bonded? There was no awkwardness, inhibitions or hesitation on anyone that I noticed. As soon as we see each other, BAM!!!!!!!!! hugging, shaking hands, big welcoming smiles on our faces.
