Unfortunately, it seems like Dotch is going to be coming off the air again. According to UTB's website, they plan to replace Dotch (which airs Friday evenings at 9:00p) with a program named Global Messenger. More information about the program is available here at UTB's website.

The new documentary/program is going to begin airing on Friday, December 2nd, so I guess that means the final episode of Dotch will air on Friday, November 25th—this coming Friday.

At first, I couldn't find any information on UTB's website indicating that Global Messenger will have e-subs, but as I was browsing through their website, I found this promotional banner/image on the side of the page indicating that the program will indeed have e-subs. Hopefully it's true!

Oh, great! Thanks, Hiroshi. This might be a really interesting documentary/reality type program. I've enjoyed Dotche over the years, but lost interest when they last discontinued it. I never regained my enthusiasm after they resurrected it this last time.

Actually, come to think of it, I became increasingly annoyed with the pompous and sharp-tongued host, Sekiguchi. I no longer found it to be a pleasant program. I did always enjoy, however, the "special" food sections they had, where their guy would travel to all sorts of places to get the "best" of the best for the food specialty being prepared. The guy who was tasked with those projects was interesting and the features were very well done.

Yep, I'm looking forward to checking out this program, too! I'm glad that UTB has decided to air it with e-subs. Hopefully it'll be an interesting addition to their lineup of programs.

Now that you mention it, I never quite got back into Dotche either, Nchristi. In fact, I don't think I've watched it at all this year since they brought it back. It used to be a genuinely fun and interesting program to watch in the beginning, but it got slightly irritating to watch all of the commentary towards the later episodes of the series. I agree, the sections about where the food came from was always fascinating and my favorite part of Dotche. I think I heard that new episodes are no longer airing in Japan, but if they bring it back, I hope they can maybe revamp the show with a new host or two.

In case anyone missed the original airing today (Sunday 8/18), UTB 18.2 will be broadcasting a special installment of Dotch Cooking Show on Monday, August 19th. It will air twice—from 10:00a - 12:00p and once more from 3:00p - 5:00p.

Here is the summary from UTB's website:

"A Japanese famous cooking show is back! This time, the topic is GYOZA (Dumpling) vs KARAAGE (Fried Chicken)!! Celebrity contestants are forced to make a choice between two succulent dishes, which anyone who has been to a fine restaurant with a tantalizing selection of food is familiar with. The only difference is, these dishes have been prepared using the ultimate ingredients, selected by traveling far and wide in search of the ‘best-of-the-best’. It won’t be easy to make the choice, since the dishes closely resemble each other, and have been prepared by first-rate chefs. Gyoza or Karaage, which is better?! The legendary Japanese food show has returned to prove which is the superior one! Don't miss it."
