Re: why so far away...
Hi Xiao Lynn, and how did you manage to find us in Florida? Are there any Korean TV stations there? Anything at all?
If not, it sounds like a pretty grim life indeed for a K-pop fan.
Ever consider getting a DVB satellite dish? As I understand it, you can get Korea’s KISB-1 and KISB-3 networks (all in Korean, no subtitles). Don’t know if they have any K-pop, but you might check their website:
http://www.kisb.tv/channel1_main.asp
Oh yes: you’d also get L.A.’s very own KXLA Channel 44 (KBS programs, some English subtitled). And (unlike something like DirecTV or Dish Network) DVB is *free*.
I should emphasize that I have NO experience with DVB, but I’ve been looking at it very seriously lately, as my job situation may soon mandate my moving from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. Las Vegas may have lots of casino action, but they’ve also got ZERO Korean broadcasting going on there. Bummer for me.
Anyway, welcome to the California board, and feel free to write!

Re: why so far away...
That sucks. I'm also a Japanese freak, stuck in an area where there are practically 0 Japanese (in North L.A) and 90% are Korean. But at least we have Little Tokyo.

Re: why so far away...
Your situations kind of different than Xiao Lynn's, Hiroshi. You can drive to Little Tokyo and find yourself some J-dramas or watch them on TV. Xiao Lynn, on the other hand, probably has to watch dramas downloaded off the Internet and doesn't get the variety of Asian dramas we get here in Cali.

Re: why so far away...
Very true, thanks for pointing that out Rene.
Is there any minimal Asian presence? Where do you live in Florida? If you live in or near Miami, I'm sure Miami has some sort of Asian store...

Is there any Asian broadcasting in Las Vegas at all? If I were to ever leave So Cal, that's one of the few cities I would consider moving to, but I would be bummed if they had no Asian broadcasting at all. I always thought Vegas had a pretty diverse population. Perhaps, I'm mistaken, or perhaps, the TV market there hasn't caught up with the diversity of the population yet. I'll have to look into this, cuz now I'm curious.

Re: why so far away...
Blondie, Las Vegas has a wonderful Chinatown (exit Spring Mountain Road from the I-15 freeway, and head west). It’s about 5 or 6 city blocks long, and I say it’s about 60% Chinese, 30% Korean, and the rest Japanese and Vietnamese. It even has a “99 Ranch Market.”
But, I’ve never seen one bit of Asian TV programming when I’ve visited. Last time my mom visited (my brother has a house there, so we go there pretty regularly) she told me that she’d seen something that looked Asian on TV late one Saturday night – but she had no idea what the program was, or what language it might have been.
Such is the beauty of DVB broadcasting. If I leave California, the only thing I can think of that I’d miss is my beloved Asian TV programming – but if I could bring KXLA-Channel 44 along with me, the move would be so much more bearable!

Re: why so far away...
Here's the cable lineup for ZIP code 89102 in Las Vegas, which I believe contains the area in question. Looking through the lineup, I see the International Channel, CCTV4, PowerTV, and JNG (TV Japan North America).

Re: why so far away...
I have too seen some Asian programming in Las Vegas when I was staying at Paris. It was a Japanese channel, to my knowledge.
