If you look carefully, you'll see that the actual ellipsis character has more space around and between the dots. The line breaking rules are also different for the ellipsis mark than they are for periods, so using the right character will help ensure that browsers and word processors break lines in the right way when an ellipsis is near the end of a line.
Finally, as you can see, in Japanese (and Chinese and Korean), ellipses look very different from periods.
Edit: Note that the ellipsis character is available in the Special Characters menu.

Wow, DVD? I wouldn't buy the first season on DVD. If I was to buy something it would be the second season, as it was a bit more exciting than the first. Its available on YA, right?
