Unlike "The Battery Runs Out", this ending seemed strained... and that "kiss" was terrible... I think it's because it's like he was kissing his sister... didn't seem that way... and he even said,"I'm only going to do this once". Did he mean he was only going to kiss her once or that he was only going to say "I love you" once? I think he should have married the florist... he still could have seen Mio... It was strange... This was uncharacteristic for a Jdrama... it seemed like the writers wanted to prove to us they can write a predictable happy ending...
Well, I guess I regret getting what I wanted...

I still feel yucky... it just seemed like they were kissing cousins... next stop... Jerry Springer.

I didn't see them kiss at any time. I believe it was more about "I love you" being said by Riku than any kiss.

No, they did kiss, don't you remember the scene where Miou and Riku are playfully chasing each other in her living room?

And now for interpretation #3....

I'm with you, ravishingrono. I didn't see a kiss, either. What I thought was going on was her kidding him about how he never actually proposed to her--that he proposed to Hachi, as though she wasn't even present. My interpretation was that he was whispering in her ear his proposal. ??

(My only other commentary on the last show was she should have stuck with the Western wedding gown. The traditional costume was ever so beautiful, but she was nearly unrecognizable (and not in a good way) with powdered face and wig!)

Yeah - I also think that Mio looked better with the Western style dress. She did look a bit incomprehensible with the traditional dress.

classblockquoteShe did look a bit incomprehensible with the traditional dress.I don't comprehend what there is to comprehend about a dress. It is an article of clothing.
classblockquoteand that "kiss" was terrible... I think it's because it's like he was kissing his sister...The thing about J-drama (and possibly most entertainment from Buddist countries) is that even though the actors are in a private space their level of intimacy is only slightly more than if they were in a public space so as not to embarass the audience. Contrast this with Laguna Beach/The Real O.C. where they act like they're in a private space when they're in a public place.

Additionally Mio and Riku seemed to be kidding around in the kitchen so this sort of juvenile behavior would be more appropriate than more serious afftection.

My asian friends wont/cant hold hands (or other PDA) yet the babies keep coming at regular intervals.

Wow, a wedding dress is a piece of clothing? I didn't know that! Wow - thanks for teaching me so much about clothing!

-------

I think that perhaps this has a bit to do with the Japanese "mindset". She wore the authentic, cultural clothes when marrying Riku because she truly felt love for him. She wore the foreign Western clothes while marrying Hayashida because she did not really love him.

Interesting observation, Hiroshi. I think you're right about that. Also, the "Western" wedding was a "show" for her father. The Japanese traditional wedding was the real thing...for herself, Riku, Hachi and all the relatives/friends. Good point!

Yeah but the powdered face and the powdered wig just didn't do anything for me... and I'm a Miki groupie... I really would have liked to see her in the wedding dress... lots of times they do both... they do the traditional, but change into the wedding dress at the reception... that happened in one of the dramas we just saw...

Oh well, time to move on...

Maybe you are right... maybe he did just whisper in her ear... because he was suppose to say "I love you" to her... that would make more sense... than a peck on the cheek... thanks for clearing that misconception up for me...

No way my daughters going to get her face powdered up and wig put on... thank God I live in America.

True, sumobobby, I do think she looked better in the Western dress, but the writer did mean for the traditional dress to be more autentic.
