Aren't most of the Taiwanese/Chinese dramas joint-productions with other countries? I have been looking for a unique, Taiwanese drama made on the Republic of China without any People's Republic of China intervention, and vice versa - Hong Kong included.

Is this Heart Lotus one of them?

I haven't watched the credits or found any information on-line about the production. But since the series is in Taiwanese, I think chances are pretty good it's a Taiwan-only production.

Yes, it's in Hoklo with Chinese subtitles.

Technical Notes

Hoklo (xml:langzh-TW福佬話) is the linguistical term for what is commonly called Taiwanese (xml:langzh-TW台灣話, 台語). Some non-Hoklo Taiwanese take offense at the terms xml:langzh-TW台灣話/台語 (Taiwanese language). See the xml:langzh-TW台灣話 Wiki page (Japanese version, English version) for more info.

Mandarin refers to the spoken language. The written language is usually written as xml:langzh-TW中文 (translated simply but ambiguously as the catch-all term Chinese) or, if wishing to be very technical, xml:langzh-TW白話 (baihua).

Yes - in the end its all politics. The KMT (ethnic Chinese) which insists that Taiwan is a Chinese country (well, made up of Chinese, that is) uses Mandarin and takes offense at the usage of the word Taiwanese - yet the DPP and the Green coalition prefer Hoklo/Taiwanese to Mandarin/Chinese.

And since there still seems to be confusion:

Mizuno Miki = "Kyoko" from Koibumi

Inamori Izumi = "Chikako" from Younger Man

As for some on-topic goodness... The theme song is " xml:lang ja-JP キヲク" by Every Little Thing. That really puts this drama's age into perspective... for me at least. (I also have the mp3 & video but I'm not sharing emoticon )

Re: J-Drama: しあわせのシッポ (SHIAWASE no SHIPPO)

Watching a construction as contrived as J-drama, 11 episodes, male and female leads with wrong person, etc., requires the suspension of disbelief. You need to turn off the part of your brain that shouts "You're fired!" back at the TV.

For that you'll get moments like ten year old Mio (the lovely Miki Mizuno) running past her father in the rain and twenty years later accepting the same umbrella from him. Or Mio trying to translate the untranslatable for Riku and his would-be girlfriend.

While dealing with love and loss, the show stays surprisingly light, sort of how Mio cries inside with each setback before remembering to smile.

Only one question, is sumobobby watching?

100% contrary. 100% of the time.

Sumobobby has to watch, its his favorite actress in a similar role..

The name Mio was also used in Tengoku e no kaidan, it shall always have a special meaning for me.

I shall start watching next week, as these fast two weeks I was outta the house, and only one VCR could record..

Just to nitpick a bit, here in xml:langja-JPしあわせのシッポ (SHIAWASE no SHIPPO), Mio is xml:langja-JP美桜. In xml:langja-JP天国への階段, Mio was xml:langja-JP美央. classulclasslixml:langja-JP=beautyclasslixml:langja-JP=cherry (sakura)classlixml:langja-JP=center, middle
