A new show started around 1pm. It's called 男丁格爾 (Nan Ding Ger Er) which is the phonetic translation of Nightingale, the famous nurse, Florence Nightingale. Usually, Nightingale is written as 南丁格爾, but since 南 and 男 sound the same (Nan), this title shows that the drama is about male nurses.nondisclosed_email@example.com (merela)Wed, 01 Mar 2006 19:18:26 +0000 Re: TW-idol drama: 七年級生 7th Gradehttps://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p1394892,from=rss#post1394892https://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p1394892,from=rss#post1394892 class blockquote merela wrote: The title 7th Grade is misleading. This is not a story about 7th graders. These kids are from a junior college, so they are likely 19YOs and 20YOs. This is a story about kids who were born in the late 80s. Like I said before, if you were born in the 1960s, you would be considered in the "5th grade". It's a term coined in Taiwan to show a generation of people. Since Chinese revolution succeeded in 1911, 1911 was consider year 1 of the Chinese Republic. 7th graders are those born in the Chinese Republic year 70-79. If you add 11 to the years, you will get 1981-1990. So 7th graders referred to those born from 1981 to 1990. Wow. So interesting, merela! I wouldn't (couldn't) have had a clue on such important cultural info. Thanks for that explanation. The title 7th Grade is misleading. This is not a story about 7th graders. These kids are from a junior college, so they are likely 19YOs and 20YOs. This is a story about kids who were born in the late 80s. Like I said before, if you were born in the 1960s, you would be considered in the "5th grade". If you add 11 to the years, you will get 1981-1990. So 7th graders referred to those born from 1981 to 1990. This is not a story about 13YOs or the actual 7th graders (as in the U.S.).nondisclosed_email@example.com (merela)Wed, 15 Feb 2006 11:35:32 +0000 Re: Re:https://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p1394888,from=rss#post1394888https://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p1394888,from=rss#post1394888 class blockquote ExoticNeurotic wrote: another drama which is not even worth watching, sigh. what are they thinking when they cast a lead actress in her 20s to play a role of 13y/o girl?!?!?!?!..Is it that bad?! I haven't really given it a watch, but I believe you because this show was a hit amongst the 13-16YO crowd in Taiwan. This show is particularly strange, or at least the subject it addresses--cheerleading squad in highschool. I had no idea cheerleading is at all important in Taiwan highschools. All the kids at that age are under extreme pressure to pass the national highschool exam after they finish grade 9, then to pass the national university exam after they finish grade 12 which do not leave them much time to do any extracurricular activities. Although realism is not integral part of idol drama, it's still disappointing to see it so far from the truth.nondisclosed_email@example.com (merela)Wed, 15 Feb 2006 10:52:19 +0000 Re:https://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p1394887,from=rss#post1394887https://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p1394887,from=rss#post1394887another drama which is not even worth watching, sigh. what are they thinking when they cast a lead actress in her 20s to play a role of 13y/o girl?!?!?!?!..nondisclosed_email@example.com (ExoticNeurotic)Tue, 14 Feb 2006 23:27:49 +0000 TW-idol drama: 七年級生 7th Gradehttps://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p1394886,from=rss#post1394886https://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/p1394886,from=rss#post1394886This drama will follow Taipei Family after it ends today. The 七年級生 7th Grade will air on KSCI/LA18's noon time slot from 2/10/2006 (Friday) to 3/1/2006 (Wed). The term 7th Grade can be deceiving for some of you. This is a new term coined in Taiwan to refer to people born in the 1980s. Since China became a republic in 1911, all the years following are dated as Ming Guo. So 1911 would be Ming Guo year 1. So 7th Grade refers to people born in Ming Guo year 70-79, which would be 1981-1990. It's an idol drama, but I haven't seen it, so I can't comment on the extent of its idol content. The female lead is Ariel Lin who was the lead in Secret Garden 1 and 2.
