Sure. I don't watch it either, but I do watch some parts of it when I'm bored. There's still a ways left for this show, I think.

Well, an average C-drama is about 30-40 episodes long. Last Empress was about 36 episodes, so I presume this will be around there.

Thanks! I was so disappointed in the Last Empress' ending episode. They crammed so much in the last 10 min and it went so fast I couldn't even read the sub-titles. I really would rather they make it longer, especially at the end so people like me don't end up wondering what happened....

I AM enjoying this drama. Is it based on fact? I'd hate to think that snippy little princess will get Si lang.

I don't know how much of it is based on fact, if the Yang family did exist, but I know that there have been many series related to this Yang family. In the 80's there was the HK TVB version of the Yang family starring Andy Lau and Tony Leung and other very popular HK artists.

edit:

here's something:

Beijing Opera: Generals of Yang Family

In the Song army, there was a family of generals named Yang, who fought hard and victoriously in many a battle against the invading enemy. However, they were either sabotaged by the capitulation wing of the Song Court or distrusted by the Song Emperor whose only concern was to keep himself from harm's way at whatever cost. Eventually, the Yang army was defeated by the Liao with tremendous losses: all but three of the eight brother generals perished. One of the survived quit fighting and became a monk; another was captured by the enemy and became the Liao's first son-in-law. Yang Yanzhao was the only male of his generation to lead the Yang Family army and therefore made its Commander-in-Chief. Except for a couple of very young sons, the positions of the generals missing in action were now filled by all the women of the family: Yanzhao's mother, his wife, his two sisters, and three of his brothers' widows. Together, they are known to the Chinese as the "Women Generals of the Yang Family."

Yes, the Yang family were a powerful force in Song China.

I agree. I was dissapointed by Last Empress' final episode. I wish we could have seen what happened to Wen Hsiu after the end of the war. How she died, why she died, etc. They kinda just let the whole plot with the emperor die out.. which is not what happened in real life.

I think the reason the writers didn't elaborate on how Wen Hsiu died or how she did after the end of the war was because no one really knows what happened to her....at least there were no official documentation of her life after the war.

It's a shame that Chinese modern history is in shambles because of the wars and the conflicts within the country that have occurred since China became a republic in 1911. Of course, after 1949, there are 2 versions of everything--communist viewpoint and the KMT viewpoint.

With stories like 楊門虎將, one does not know where history ends and where fiction begins. History showed that these people did exist, but did the story evolved the way the show depicted, who knows?! I still prefer to read these stories than to see them on TV.

That's true, merela. I've even heard a few bizarre theories that she fled to Taiwan in 1949 with the fleeing Republic and was killed off by the KMT's secret police in 1952. Most sources seem to say that she died in 1950 in Tientsin, possibly of a broken heart. That would be.. six years after this show ended.

Regardless though, they seemed to make up so much as it is in that drama. They could have made up a fictional ending. I doubt it would overshadow the other fictional elements. They have a pretty good standing.. Communist takeover, etc.
