assassination attempt was likely done by the Liao (in the very beginning we already saw the princess of the Liao, who managed to escape), who see the Yang family as a threat to their ability to conquer the Song.
So far, it hasn't shown the prime minister as a betrayer of the country...I wonder who sent the old man to spy on the condition of the head of the Yang family--the prime minister or the Liao?

I suspect the prime minister because he was so nervous when the emperor wanted to see who the culprits were and who the victim was. He kept blocking him and then even went as far as lying and saying that the guards escorted General Yang to his residence.
As for the spy.. I'm not sure if the Liao sent him or the prime minister. I won't go far and say the prime minister is in cahoots with the Liao but I will say that they both dislike General Yang. I don't think the Liao would send the spy.. it was probably the prime minister.

English subbed?! This show is english subbed? Yay! I wish more C-Dramas were subtitled. >_< Like that Shui Yue Dong Tian series I watched a while back...didn't understand it, but it looked funny and interesting. ^____________^

Yeah - welcome kar20!! This C-drama is the second Chinese drama so far to be subtitled. The first was called Last Empress - the drama which proceeded this one.

Just a question - its odd - but is the Chae Rim's character speaking in Korean or speaking in Chinese? In a few scenes it looks like her voice was dubbed.

I've modified the title to use an em-dash (that's what it's called in typography; in grammar, this character is what is simply called a dash). The em-dash is one of the special characters available in the Special Characters menu.
(I should really post something in the Tech section about all the special features this board now has.)
