HK-drama: 功夫足球 Kung Fu Soccer (replacing Lovers in Paris)

This show will replace Lovers in Paris on August 17. KSCI/LA18's 7pm-8pm timeslot.

Show's website:
http://tvcity.tvb.com/drama/kungfu-soccer/cast/index.html

YesAsia link to this show:

http://global.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/pid-1003946533/aid-192/section-videos/code-c/version-all/

I don't know anything about this show or the stars. I'm not familiar with Hong Kong actors/actresses, so hopefully, someone else can post stuff about this show and/or its actors/actresses.

It has English and Chinese subtitles. Unfortunately, the English translation is not very good. It was translated by someone who doesn't know soccer terminologies.

Wouldn't you know it, I missed taping the first 35 minutes of the show! Hopefully someone can recap.

Thanks.

Ok, this is purely from memory so if I miss anything, any1 can feel free to add.

The first scene showed a group of men around a table outside commenting on a soccer match they were watching on TV. In the background was a janitor quietly sweeping the surrounding area. The janitor gave his opinion on the game, saying what the player(s) should have done. One of the men at the table mocked the janitor, insulted his soccer knowledge/skill & challenged him to prove that he can kick the ball behind him. The man said if the janitor does it, he'll give him $1,000. So then they went to a soccer field & the janitor kicked a soccer ball with his heel to the goal behind him. He did this a few times to appease the guy who remained unconvinced by one kick but the guy didn't pay up and fled with his friends. The janitor kicked the soccer ball, which landed near a tree. A drunk man found it & gave it to his son for his son's birthday. The son threw the soccer ball out their window & it landed in a trash bin. A cop found the ball in a dump and threw it away. Another guy took the ball and swam with it in the ocean where he got surrounded by sharks and eaten by one. Cut to a scene where some1 caught & cut open the shark which swallowed the swimmer & soccer ball. He threw the ball over behind him until another boy found it & played with it with his friends. The soccer ball got kicked over to some guy who kicked it around like he owned it. The boys then went to get the ball back from the guy. Some girl showed up purporting herself to be the leader of the welfare organization (?) in the neighborhood and she claimed to remove trouble & so challenged the guy with foot skills to a fight. They then exchanged kung fu moves without really touching each other - parodying those supernatural elements some kung fu shows add to kung fu (you know - similar to the fights in that drama Hero / World's Finest where they name the moves first then gesture with a palm and some sort of electric bolt comes out & debilitates the enemy? At one point the girl warned of a move by some kung fu master called "Ni Hao Ma?" and loudly screamed "Ni hao ma?!!" afterward which deafened her opponent. LOL. I guess you have to see it). Anyway, the guy declared himself the winner in the end. (Btw, this guy looks like the same actor who played the character Cheng Shi Fei's young father in the drama Hero/World's Finest. I think his character name in that drama is Go Sun Tong? I can't remember anymore).

The next scene showed the janitor walking among a crowd of people who were chanting "Go China", and some guy looking for him. The guy found him and identified himself as one of his old teammates and basically sought him to ask him to join the team their group was forming. The janitor denied he ever knew the guy, shooed him away and went home. When he got home, another man was waiting for him. It turned out to be his younger brother. The janitor was not pleased to see him. The younger brother asked the janitor to be their soccer coach. The janitor refused and acted as if he really wanted to kill the younger brother, slapped him, called him a bastard; basically, one would surmise from the janitor's actions that the younger brother committed a grave sin against him in the past. The younger brother quickly fled from the janitor's wrath. Outside, there was a black car waiting for the younger bro. surrounded by men in black suits. He rudely ordered the men to go as he got in the car. (He is probably a man with power and/or money).

The next scene showed the janitor at a bar watching a commentary/news on a soccer match. His younger brother was on TV being interviewed. The younger bro. states that he will take China to the World Cup. The janitor contemptuously said to himself that he (the younger bro.) can't because he doesn't have the gift. He started proclaiming to himself whom he was - some big time soccer player in the past? Then he suddenly thought the crowd at the bar responded with a mock, asking who the hell he was. The janitor responded that they may not know him but they should ask their fathers whom he was, but in reality the people were just minding their own business and weren't paying attention to him.

The next day, the janitor assembled some neighborhood men and kids to form a soccer team but he had to bribe them with ice cream first. In the end, they all bailed out. Then he noticed some1 nearby kicking items (from a junkyard?) which land neatly arranged in the back of a truck. He became even more amazed when he saw her kick this heavy machinery off the ground so she can pick up her coin which rolled underneath it. He approached the woman and asked if she's interested in soccer. She just ignored him and followed her boss to find out how much she'll make. The janitor said "What a pity!" He thought he was a guy too because her hair and half of her face was covered.

At the soccer field, the janitor was approached by a bald guy who asked if he can teach him soccer. They both agreed to meet at 8 pm that night at the field. While the janitor was waiting for his new student, he saw a group of men approach the field, talking about kung fu. He heard one of the guys boast to the other guys that he knows a combination of kung fu styles which is the best. Later this guy received a message that some1 was challenging him. He went to the soccer field to meet the challenger, a woman dressed in ninja clothing. The woman eventually beat the guy and told him not to teach people anymore. The janitor witnessed all this and tried to go after the ninja, who disappeared rather quickly. The janitor looked at his watch and remarked that his new student can't keep his promise because he didn't show up. Then the next scene showed the new student somewhere about to cross the street when he was hit by a van.

The next day the janitor looked for that woman whom he thought was a man. He followed her & he was brought to the neighborhood where that girl (leader of welfare org.) and guy (really good with kicking soccer ball around) lived. The janitor met both and found out the guy with soccer skills never played, can remember all the soccer players and matches but can't remember anything else. The woman the janitor followed turned out to be the sister of the guy with soccer skills. He asked the woman about her interests and if she ever played soccer. I think this is where the episode ended.

Did any1 watch episode 2? I missed it. How did Shiao Shun and his sister get that apartment at the end? (I caught just the end part.) Don't they live in a shabby house? Are they just pretending to be others whom they're not?

This show will end this Friday. The new show "Heaven's Wedding Gown" will replace it. I've posted the new thread for this show.

Aside from the filler episodes, the soccer and Kung Fu parts of the show were really fun to watch. Oh sorry to ask again, but anyone know where to get the opening song?Image
