C-Drama: 乡里人、城里人、外国人 (Country People, City People and Foreigners)

Drama xml:langzh-CN乡里人、城里人、外国人 (Country People, City People and Foreigners) took over Journey to the West's Saturday 1pm International Channel slot starting last week. This drama is in Mandarin and subtitled in English. It runs for twenty-two episodes. The International Channel generally runs programs from the mainland around this time, so this is probably a C-drama.

Well, care to give a synopsis or review? Is it worth checking out?

Re: C-Drama: Country People, City People and Foreigners

Well so far, from what I saw in the 1st eps. it was about the idea of bringing city and country people together. the story revolves a young country girl(forgot her name)who is very talented when it comes to scuplturing and building things. Well, this hotel that is in the city saw some of the things she did and had taken an interest in her. They setup and agreement with her and now a project is underway.

I believe that is right. I may be wrong since I didn't see the second episode. If I am wrong, then I will correct my snyopsis. Do I think the drama is worth watching. It's a bit slow, has subtitles, but the timing of the subtitles are good(better that Journey to the west. I don't think everyone will enjoy the drama. It is a modern one.

Wow ... are they running that series again? I watched it about seven years ago , so I'm a little fuzzy on the details, but the basic plot is this ...

A girl named Cao ar (grass) moves from the country into a big city with her brother Gen ar (root) due to the fact that she's suppose to work with this big city company to construct some type of building that involves really tall dragon carved "zhu4 zi1" (vocabulary inept am I).

So there's the 乡里人 and 城里人. The 外国人 part comes from this American who is somehow involved with the project.

Anyway, that's only the outside plot, the internal relations between the main characters are actually very complex. As the main character works on the design of the construction, her boss/the leader of the project starts to fall in love with her. All this time, her "brother" who came with her to the city acts very protective of her.

Later, near the end of the series (I'm skipping a load of episodes), her "mother" reveals that she was actually found on the side of a road and adopted. The mother goes on to say that she'd been planning to marry her son to her adopted daughter, thus the grass and root names, indicating that they belong together. Both Cao ar and her brother oppose the idea immediately. Somewhere around here Cao ar coincidentally finds her birth father, he's actually involved with the project somehow, and it's a strange twist of fate.

Then comes the biggest plot twist, the boss who had been so in love with her ... classrevealImageclassspoilerhe turns out to be her real brother. The American guy in the series realizes that he knows Cao ar's real mother, who had moved to America. Her real mother writes her a letter apologizing and explaining. So the end of the series is a bit sad because of the discovery that Cao ar and the boss guy are in actuality siblings.

Overall, I remember thinking that the series had been worth watching, but then again, I was nine years old at the time, so my judgement was no more than questionable.

^no..you're right. I haven't been watching it every week, but the last time I watched, Cao Er had met her real mom and they were talking about how Gen Er and her aren't really brother and sister, but I had no clue that the boss and Cao Er are related.
