C Drama: 躍龍門 (Jumping over the Dragon's Gate)

I finally had the time to watch 4 episodes all at once. Yue Long Men means Jumping over the Dragon's Gate.

The story began when a bunch of scholars entered the annual examination (to become local magistrates). When the results were announced those who were capable weren't on the list, but those who were wealthy and incapable were on the list. So those who thought they were good enough to be on the list started a riot. The lead character is the leader of this pack of rioting students.

It was obvious that lots of bribery took place to enable those wealthy kids to be on the list.

The new man in town is a well-known magistrate who has never taken any bribes (he gives away home-made fans drawn by his wife as gifts when etiquette requires him to give gifts). He was assigned to solve this case. The head honcho of this district is in a bind because the emperor had issued a plaque commending them for being the only district in the country without any cheating caught at the examination site. As it turned out, his district was racked by bribery--everyone on the list were there because of bribes.

This story will intertwine the lives of this new magistrate and the leader of the student riot.

In the old days, passing this exam will guarantee lifetime of prosperity and wealth and service to the emperor. Story has it that scholars study for over 10 years to write this exam. So this exam is essentially the Dragon's Gate and by passing the exam, you would have jumped the gate to better things--the only way scholars can get ahead in life.

This is a 30-episode show.

I'll let you know. They are certainly dragging the last 3 episodes and making it into at least 5 episodes.

-------
The Monday night episode was not the final episode. It'll either end tonight or tomorrow night. The trailer for the Royal Prince was airing throughout last night's show.

I know, especially now that Quest USA airs on Thurs from 7:30pm-8pm, there's a lost of airing time on Thurs.

Always expect the 7pm M-F drama to take more days to air than the original # of epis

Royal Prince is 32 epis, so it's likely gonna take 35+ days to air

Yue Long Men ended last night. Tonight was the first episode of the Secret History of the Crown Prince.

I think the emperor of both the Yueh Long Men show and this show is the same "Kang Hsi" Emperor of the Ching Dynasty.

A pity KSCI didn't air the 1st part to The Royal prince (Huang Tai Zi Mi Zhi), called Xiao Zhuang Epic first before airing this follow-up "sequel", yet KTSF up in San Franciso is (but they havn't aired The Royal Prince yet)
