HK drama: 子是故人來 (Venture Against Time/Son from the Past)
I'm sure those who visit the the japan-tv site are familiar with the HK drama A Step into the Past and its plotline of a police officer from the future who travels back to the Warring States Period...
...but I think the drama produced by its rival station (ATV) takes the whole time traveling idea to a whole different level.

Travel back in time with the Chengs

CHANNEL U's latest offering, Venture Against Time, is one of those shows that makes you wait in keen anticipation.
In my book, any drama with a storyline that has the son looking much older than the dad, is worth a peek.
In this case, the son is the nicely-wrinkled Chin Han while the dad is the smooth-complexioned Raymond Wong.
Case of some miraculous plastic surgery?
Nah, more like loads of time travel.
The story revolves around Cheng Feng (Raymond), who discovers that his adopted dad Liu Jin (Lau Shek Yin) was his birth dad Cheng Sheng's (Ben Wong) murderer.
Somehow, Cheng Feng - with his Elvis hairstyle and leather bomber jacket - gets propelled into the year 2002 from the 1960s, and meets up with his grown son Cheng Ming (Chin Han).
Then, together they go back in time to the 1930s to look for Cheng Sheng.
Confused already?
Basically, you just need to know all the Chengs (Cheng Sheng, Cheng Feng and Cheng Ming) will be doing quite a bit of time travelling to find out who actually murdered Cheng Sheng.
It's a bit hard to swallow that Chin Han's character is the youngest of the lot, but you'll get used to it.
Local actors Darren Lim (above, in black) and Apple Hong also have rather meaty roles in the serial.
Darren plays Liu Jin's son Lu Zhixuan, who has trouble coming to terms with his family's shady background. And Apple is the inquisitive reporter Wu An, who tries to dig it all up.
Ex-TCS actress Ann Kok also makes an appearance as Liu Jin's wife.
This mega-production features a large cast.
The complicated plot might be a put-off for some, but after the first two episodes, you'll be hooked.
