Is CJKDramas.com slow for you?
Various members have reported occasional slowness with the board.
Firefox/Mozilla users can help me track down the problem by installing the Tamper Data extension. This is really a wonderful tool for helping to track down web site performance problems.
Go to Tools -> Tamper Data, and a window will open. Load a page, and the Tamper Data window will show how long each item on the page took to load, when it loaded, if it was cached, and so forth. Right click on an item and select Graph All to see a graph showing how things loaded.
My suspicion is that there is some advertisement or some members' avatars or signatures that are causing problems for some users. Once we identify the slow images, I can remove advertisements or let particular members know about their problem avatars/sigs.
Thanks for your assistance everyone!

Re: Is CJKDramas.com slow for you?
I wouldn't say it loads all that slow, but scrolling does move slow probably due to the volume of images being displayed on the site at one time. I ran the Tamper Data extension and I assume that the longer the bar, the longer the time it took the page to load? Looking at the graph again I see 2 numbers, the second of which I assume is milliseconds. If that is the case, the on-air gif took the longest. The special deal image linking to travelnice and the nanaca crash pics were the second worst.
Here is the graph I got when I loaded it:
BTW, this was on a cable modem.
I should probably do more tests on individual threads instead of the front page.

…
Sure, any page in particular or should I just choose one at random?

Maybe the page two back from the current one. We've had major problems of slowness in this thread for the last month or so. Thx.

Yes, the longer the bar, the longer the load time, which is also shown as a number in milliseconds.
There's nothing special about the two images you identified. But you can see that those two images are loading at the same time a whole bunch of other images are loading. So, I suspect their times were slow just because they were sharing your pipe to the Internet with that bunch of other downloads.
A similar graph from a topic page would indeed be interesting.

Re: Is CJKDramas.com slow for you?
For what it‛s worth...
There is an error in this javascript:
function ak_getCookie(name)
{
var dc = document.cookie;
var prefix = name + "=";
var begin = dc.indexOf("; " + prefix);
if (begin == -1)
{
begin = dc.indexOf(prefix);
if (begin != 0) return null;
}
else
{
begin += 2;
}
var end = document.cookie.indexOf(";", begin);
if (end == -1)
{
end = dc.length;
}
return unescape(dc.substring(begin + prefix.length, end));
In particular, it shows an error occurred at:
var end = document.cookie.indexOf(";", begin);
Comments from my computer guru while on the Tech Forum/slowness topic page: class blockquote Running this javascript program inside of my computer causes it to use up too much memory threatening to crash my computer right now, so I have to close this page.
You might want to tell Charles that the javascript code slows my copy of SeaMonkey dramatically, even after the page is fully loaded, and that it causes a crash in my version 5.5 IE.

function ak_getCookie(name)Thanks. That function (which is Runboard's, not mine) shouldn't be getting called, but I've forwarded your post to Thor and asked for the function to be removed.
