Re: Need Help Using the Board?
Thanks very much for your quick reply and help, ccwf.
Below is a test I did in the "Test Post" forum... class ul
This is a test—this is a test. [typed in Em Dash code manually]
Second test—second test. [Em Dash entered via "special characters" button]
class line-through this is a testCool!
Next question: Is it possible to enter the Em Dash and En Dash manually (as we did before) instead of being limited to using the spec char button? For me it is much simpler and faster to type "mdash;" than to stop typing, scroll up to Spec Chars and create Em Dash that way. If there isn't a quick and easy fix to this, then don't bother. I'll adjust to typing two hyphens on the keyboard instead. I just like the Em Dash because it is so professional looking and beautiful. class blockquote ccwf wrote:
For the arrow issue, are you seeing this problem only here on this board or also on other web sites?I was experiencing it everywhere, so I thought it was a result of something I did on my keyboard. [nchristi hides face in shame] One day I did something really, really stupid: I wiped down the keys on my keyboard without turning off the computer. I wondered if I happened to press the combination of keys that somehow changed the arrow key functions?
At any rate, maybe due to all the fooling around I've done to try to resolve the current issue we're discussing here, the problem has changed somewhat. Now when I load a new page, both on CJK and other websites, the up/down arrows take me to top or bottom of the entire page. However, if I place the mouse cursor in the text somewhere (or in a post), then the arrow keys will now go up or down one row at a time--which is what I desire. (Maybe this is how it's supposed to work?)
During my "arrow problem" days, placing the cursor within the page text did not allow me to arrow up/down one row at a time--it would arrow up/down only to page top or bottom.

They're now trying to preserve your post exactly as typed, so if you type —, that's what you get instead of having it be interpreted.
On Windows, you should also be able to get an em-dash by holding down the Alt key and typing 151 on the number keypad. Not exactly easy to remember, but that's an alternative.

OK, try Alt-0151.

Re: Need Help Using the Board?
Hmm, the only way I know of to directly go to a specific page in a post involves the address bar at the very top of the internet browser. It's a little confusing, but it can take you directly to a certain page without having to click many times to find it.
For instance, let's take the K-Drama Video Club topic. You can start off by clicking on any page number. For instance, page 2. When you click on page 2, notice that the address bar at the top of your internet browser reads the following:
http://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/t167994,offset=10
Though it is page 2, the number at the very end of the link says "10". In other words, it is one digit less than the page number plus the number 0. If you want to go directly to a certain page, replace that number "10" with the number of the page you want to go to.
However, the confusing part is that you don't write the number of the page in that spot. You have to write the number that is one digit below the page you want to go to, plus the number 0.
So, for instance, if you want to jump to page 179 of that K-Drama Video Club thread, you would delete the "10" in that link and add "1780". 178 is one digit below 179, and you need to add the number 0 afterwards.
It would look like this:
http://bcjkdramasincalifornia.runboard.com/t167994,offset=1780
That's how it works. If you want to go to page 300, you would write "2990" there, and so on. Hope this helps!
