Re: KXLA Picture quality
I get KXLA through Time Warner too, like your friend, Sandy, and when I watch the Asahi drama, its just fine. Sometimes, when I am very bored, I watch the Korean shows quite late, and its fine. It must be a regional thing.

don't say that.. that's not FUNNY!... actauly when i used a standard tv attena i would have to mess with it just to get decent reception, but a few months ago i began to use the TV ontop of my roof and everything looks great! (i guess bigger IS better =P ) except that ksci come in alittle dark or maybe its been teh dramas on it so far... did anyone notice that trick seemed really dark? or is it jsut my reception?

Re: KXLA Picture quality
Nope, the dramas are coming in DARK. The past couple of dramas like YM, Trick, Koibumi have been a little TOO dark. I'm sure they weren't this dark when they originally aired.

Agreed. Too dark recently. Maybe also overly compressed (MPEG compression loses information in dark parts of scenes).

Re: KXLA Picture quality
I watched a clip of Trick on the internet the other day (the episode of Slit Mikako, just a 20 second clip) and it was very light, almost like one of those movies which are digitally remastered on DVD. It must be KSCI after all.

so you mean to tell me that somewhere stored in the KXLA and KSCI volts they have mpegs already converted with english subs? WOW that's amazing! so the series that we're taping (tivo or tape) is actualy lower quality stuff?.. that's sort of a downer =(

DVDs use MPEG-PS (VOBs). MPEG is also used in digital satellite, cable, and TiVo.

Re: KXLA Picture quality
I think it depends on the drama and the supplier. If the Japanese (or Korean or Chinese/Taiwanese) drama was produced by a wealthier supplier, they will send out quality tapes to all their sattelites. If the station tends to not spend alot, they will send a cheap copy. I think I may be wrong however.
