K-drama: 진주목걸이 (Pearl Necklace)
This drama will begin 10/24 (Fri), and from then on each Thurs & Fri night, at the 9:30pm-10:30pm timeslot, replacing Bodyguard. No word if the series will be having subs or not (couldn't be discerned from the promotional clip seen at the end of episode 21 of Bodyguard)
official hp: http://jinjoo.kbs.co.kr
taken from the KBS english site:
When we find ourselves under the shade as a totally different person from what we used to be… When we happen to look into someone's distorted inside life…
There are so many truths and lies all over the world.
Life is like a risky rope dancing… truth can turn into lies and vice versa.
Like the lady in 'The Necklace' by Maupassant, truth and lies put us to the test all the time, surrounding us and sometimes they shake our lives upside down.
This drama asks a question of us. Surrounded by the truth and lies mixed in certain moments of our lives which we bump into… What is the truth and what is good and bad? Or perhaps our lives might be the ones that are filled with false images and hypocrisy where the truth is hidden.
Such is life that makes us even difficult to live. Though our lives are full of hardships like walking at midnight without a light, Though the life is filled with illusions… Love and forgiveness make our lives brilliant.
Here are the people… Who get used to hatred, despair, grudge, regret and love Like the rings on their hands… And their power of confession, forgiveness and love! You can see them through this drama.

Re: K-drama: Pearl Necklace
I think it's a shame they're Bodyguard is ending so quickly. I think it was a really good drama but I wonder how it's going to wrap up so soon. I mean, the whole Kyung-tak and Yu-jin relationship thing and the fact he got shot at the end of the last episode. Too bad the Bodyguard DVD boxed set isn't English subbed.

Re: K-drama: Pearl Necklace
Though we're getting off the subject of "Pearl Necklace" a bit, I might mention that a contributor to Chicago’s Korean drama discussion board has noticed that that the original screenplay of “Bodyguard” got pretty badly chopped up by the time they were set for filming. Apparently, it was intended to run quite a bit longer than the 23 episodes it finally ended up running.
For more details, check the “Ep. 6 (28 phantom scenes!)" thread under “Bodyguard” at:

let me get this straight...so even if we watched the KBS version (at the KBS website), we still have missing scenes that weren't in the script?
I know w/ KTE here in SoCal, they edit the episodes like crazy, just to fit in the allotted timeslot. Each of the Bodyguard episodes are roughly 50-55min (from the KBS website), yet many of the episodes aired in SoCal are only 40-45min (sometimes even less) and occasionally a bit more. I remember I was using the subtitles from the SoCal version to subtitle the 1st episode KBS version I had d/led online, and to my dismay, a 2-5min scene was cut off from the 1st episode.
Because of KTE's edit, I have decided to buy the DVD set.

Well, *apparently* so. This all came up on the Chicago discussion board because people were confused about why Man-bok was forced to resign from the police force (a bribe was suggested, but it wasn't really clear exactly what happened except that he got the boot). One of the Chicago correspondents noticed that the video from the KBS website pretty much matched what they had just seen in Chicago (they're barely getting started with "Bodyguard" over there, maybe up to something like episode 5 or 6) but that in the actual written script, there was a lot more detail about Man-bok's ouster that was not filmed.
But, I don't know much more than that. From what I understand, though, the DVD set will therefore likely be missing many of the same scenes.

Re: K-drama: Pearl Necklace
As I had suspected, the drama is not subtitled here in SoCal (this could be due to the lower than expected ratings for the drama in Korea)...on a certain level, I'm actually pretty happy Pearl Necklace isn't subbed, since it will be a 50something ep drama according to news. Now w/ the drama not being subtitled, the other drama airing on KBS, Sangdoo! Let's Go to School will likely be subtitled, and since the drama is only 16 episodes, the drama (She's the Boss!) that is replacing it in Korea, will also likely be replacing it here in SoCal, and also w/ eng subs I hope.

Re: K-drama: Pearl Necklace
I just started watching Pearl Necklace, can someone tell me what's happened so far? I don't need an overview of everything, just the important things that have happened in recent eps. Thank you.

Re: K-drama: Pearl Necklace
So far, the most important event is that Hae-myung found out that In-sook could not possibly be Nan-joo's biological mother by peeking at In-sook's medical records. Mae-myung is extremely angry and instead of talking to In-sook, she confronts Nan-joo who is shocked and bewildered. Nan-joo asks her aunt about her dead father (In-sook's ex husband)and the aunt mistakenly reveals that he isn't dead after all. She finds him and he tells her that he is not her biological father.
Meanwhile, Gi-nam's family has more problems. They have to shut down their produce store because the building owner is kicking them out. After learning that Nan-joo and Joon-hyuk have set a wedding date, as well as the stern warning from Joon-hyuk to stay away from his girlfriend, Gi-nam is keeping his distance from Nan-joo.
Can't think of anything else right now but let me know if you have any questions.
