Re: About Spoilers

Spoilers are the BANE of TV shows. Reading what will happen it a series before it actually airs or before you see it sort of ruins the moment. Especially here where series have already run their course, but are just now being aired for the So. Cal audience. If you must discuss what will happen in a series, please use spoiler tags! Don't know how? I will show you now! So sit back and learn how to not piss off the rest of the members.

First off, their actually is no easy spoiler tag to click on when you post a message. You have to learn to type it all in. Here we go:

The main point of the spoiler tag is to blend the text into the background. This board has 2 main colors as a background when you post a message. A light gray and a darker gray. But how to decide which one will come up next?

Easy, the colors alternate. Meaning each background color will not be repeated consecutively. So the background color of the posts goes like this:

Light Gray
Dark Gray
Light Gray
Dark Gray
Light Gray
Dark Gray
etc...

Another thing to note, when you create a topic, the background color of the first post will always be light gray.

Now that we know this, check the last post of the thread you are going to post the spoiler on. If the last one is Dark Gray, the next one will be a Light Gray. If the last one is a Light Gray, the next one will be Dark Gray.

Now onto the actual code.

The color code for the Light Gray is #EEEEEE
The color code for the Dark Gray is #DDDDDD

Now that we know this we can create a template.

First we start off by starting a quote. You can type it in or you can click the button "Start Quote" Don't forget to end the quote by clickin "End Quote"

Your code should look like this:
[quote]Some text[/quote]

And when its posted it should look like this:
引用 (quote):

Some text

Now that we know that, we should add a background color. Its better to just type this in. So type the following in between the quote tags. Remember what color you post is going to be and use that color code. This post is dark gray so I will use #DDDDDD

[quote][col=#DDDDDD]OMG HE DIES NEXT EPISODE I SEEN THE PICTURES K LOOLOLOLOLZ HERE IS THE LINK ROFLS LMAO HE ALSO TAKES HIS GIRL WITH HIM WAHT A LOOSER! THE WORLD EXPLODES TOO OMG IT WAS COOL ROROOROFL[/col][/quote]

It should look like this when its done:
引用 (quote):

OMG HE DIES NEXT EPISODE I SEEN THE PICTURES K LOOLOLOLOLZ HERE IS THE LINK ROFLS LMAO HE ALSO TAKES HIS GIRL WITH HIM WAHT A LOOSER! THE WORLD EXPLODES TOO OMG IT WAS COOL ROROOROFL

VOILA! Text is matching the background, you shouldn't be able to see it now without selecting the text. It is always good to type something telling the reader that a spoiler is there. Something simple like:

Spoilers below:
引用 (quote):

OMG HE DIES NEXT EPISODE I SEEN THE PICTURES K LOOLOLOLOLZ HERE IS THE LINK ROFLS LMAO HE ALSO TAKES HIS GIRL WITH HIM WAHT A LOOSER! THE WORLD EXPLODES TOO OMG IT WAS COOL ROROOROFL

That should be it! You have learned how to create a spoiler tag!

And if you want to read all the spoilers, a shortcut is to use “select all” in your browser instead of selecting each spoilered block individually.

Re: About Spoilers

Thanks Moi, and ccwf, I'm gonna make this a sticky topic, and especially since the three main J-dramas are ending (Honmamon, Good Luck, Younger Man) we should be careful about spoilers.

Re: About Spoilers

Don't not discuss it - just use Moi's method. It really is a better way.

Re: About Spoilers

Spoilers can now be created using a spoiler class inside a span, p, or div.

Spoiler Instructions: class block ul class li (Optional) Press the spoiler revelation button. Image class li Type your spoiler text. No space should be between the spoiler revelation code and your spoiler. class li Select your spoiler text. class li Click ¶ if your spoiler is a whole paragraph, div for other blocks of text, and span for inline text (such as a spoiler within a sentence). class li Select spoiler from the class menu.

Or
class block ul class li (Optional) Press the spoiler revelation button. Image class li Click ¶ if your spoiler is a whole paragraph, div for other blocks of text, and span for inline text (such as a spoiler within a sentence). class li Select spoiler from the class menu. class li Type your spoiler. If included immediately before (and not within) your spoiler, the Image code allows users to see the spoiler text by hovering over the Image if their browser supports this feature (IE does not).

Example:
At the end of xml:lang ja-JP ウルフズ・レイン (Wolf's Rain), you see class reveal Image class spoiler the credits. If your browser supports it, try hovering over the spoiler revelation/warning image to the right.

Note: At this time, the spoiler code only hides plain text and hyperlinks. Images and colored text within spoilers will not be hidden.

Re: About Spoilers

Thanks for writing something of a small guide to know everything about posting spoilers here, ccwf - it shall help new users of the board. So IE and AOL browsers DON'T support hovering over the spoiler and getting the spoiler to appear?

OK. I've changed the spoiler button code to try to make it easier. Now, just press the Image button and type your spoiler. Alternatively, type your spoiler, select it, and then press the button.

If you want to spoiler-protect a whole paragraph or block instead of protecting a text snippet (within a paragraph or block), then you'll need to manually edit the [span][/span] tags around your spoiler to a [p][/p] or [div][/div].

Re: About Spoilers

Thanks ccwf.

This should pretty much clear it up. Also - if you want more personalized tutorial methods for how to do this - check the Test Posts in GD. Ccwf and others have answered our questions when we have tried to test it there.
