Registration Tips
I suppose that registering for a message board is mere child’s play for most correspondents, but if you’re a computer weenie like me, maybe some of this information will make the registration process easier.
The software for this message board is provided by Akheva, who for some mysterious reason, insists on calling its Discussion Boards “Communities.” That sounds like happy-speak nonsense to me, but that’s what they call them. So, the “Community” you wish to join (I assume) is the “C/J/K Dramas in California” discussion board.
You can join as a “global” or “local” user. “Global” users are allowed to access all of Akheva’s message boards, while “local” users can only access the specific board they’re applying for. I wanted to keep the same name I use for a Chicago area Korean drama board (“mikey”) but since somebody had already selected that name for global use, I registered as a “local” user only. The result is that I cannot access Akheva’s other “communities,’ but since I’m not that interested in signing on to the “Spiderman” or “Beanie-Baby” message boards, it’s not a big deal.
Registering is a bit onerous. Akheva requires more personal information than I’d usually like to give out, and I fear that my already overflowing mailbox will become further stuffed now that Akheva has my e-mail address. Oh well. Such is the price we pay for free message boards . . .
Once you’ve submitted the information, you’ll get an e-mail response assigning you a numerical password (something like “34567”). You should probably change it to something more logical (and easy to remember) as soon as you can. The Akheva software allows you to this once you log in. But, I’ve discovered that (for some reason) I haven’t actually needed the password to access the C/J/K Drama discussion board. Akheva seems to automatically “know” who I am and I’m always logged in whenever I access the message board. I don’t know if it’s just my computer, or if everybody’s computer will work like that.
Finally, to activate your membership, you actually have to post a message. You won’t be listed as a member until you do that, so don’t be surprised.
Keep it friendly!

It's done by means of a cookie, so unless you delete the cookie, Akheva will access the information in the cookie and know who you are.

Re: Registration Tips
Note that new users are always global. Local user accounts can no longer be created.
