Doubt it, most of the Chinese dramas don't have English subs. If anything they have like Mandarin subs for Cantonese or vice versa. I remember MG2, I tried watching it just by picking up the story from what I could see, but that didn't work too well. So, I went online and I found a transcript of everything that happened. If you find one, kudos to you, but I doubt it because MG was pretty big. Not so sure about Huan Zhu Ge Ge 3 (never heard of it). Sorry.

Hehe, you must have read the transcript done by mandy? She's the only one I know that did the transcript for both MG and MG2, w/ Peach Girl in the works.

As for Huan Zhu Ge Ge 3 (the drama is written by one of TW's famous female authors, Qiong Yao), you might want to check out the episode guide found here: http://www.spcnet.tv/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3526

HZGG3's other name is Tian Shang Ren Jian

Haha, how did you know? I actually found out about MG before it aired on TV because an old Chinese girlfriend watched it off some HK VCDs. It was kind of interesting, but it's hard to get into a drama when you don't understand half of what's being said. When I found out on creidesca's site that MG2 was airing (about ep.3), I watched, hoping that there would be some English subs. Much to my dismay, they were like Mandarin or Canto subs and I continued to not understand. So, I went online and tried to find episode summaries so I could kind of understand what was going on, and inadvertently came across some MG site that had the transcripts made by mandy. emoticon Just luck I figure, but if you find the transcipts, they usually have more storyline than what's aired on TV. When I downloaded the script I read all 110+ pages before the series ended and found out a lot of interesting information that you normally wouldn't get by just watching it on TV. So, look for it, you might get lucky.

Creidesca,

Except for a drama called Rintaro (anyone see that one?)that I accidentally got hooked on while channel surfing about 7 years ago, I started watching J-dramas about the same time you did. First, I accidentally got hooked (good old channel surfing again) on the morning drama Suzuran, where I saw an ad for A Son of the Good Earth. I thought it looked good, so I gave it a try. That show got me hooked on J-dramas for good. It's still my favorite. I thought Are You in Love?, Life with Dad, and Stairway to Heaven were really good too.

Btw, what is Thunder Cops? I keep seeing that ad on your messages, and it looks interesting.

Believe it or not, I actually managed to follow an entire Chinese drama without subtitles even though I don't understand any Chinese. I think it was the drama listed as Liu Mang Tai Yi in the 2002 archive. It aired last November & December on KSCI in the noon timeslot. It was an ancient drama that was very funny and romantic. Anyway, I really liked the lead actor in it, but I couldn't find out who he was because I didn't even know what I was watching. I finally recognized the drama while browsing through Chinese VCDs at Yesasia.com and found out the actor's name was Eric Suen. He's also a pop singer and has done several other dramas. I'd love to see more of his work, but I'm not sure if I'd be able to follow his other dramas as easily. I have tried watching some other Chinese dramas (including MG2) on KSCI and the International Channel and didn't find them as easy to follow. I think I just got lucky with that one.

I remember I was somewhat interested in J-dramas when the dramas Hynopsis and We Have Tomorrow aired in SoCal, but I had missed so many episodes since they aired late in the night (I was still in junior high or high school then so I was rather busy in getting grades). Didn't begin watching the J-dramas on TV till I got myself hooked on FujiTV's The Wedding Planner, which didn't have subs.

I didn't really begin watching Churasan till it was ep 30something...hadn't been paying attention to the drama at all till I saw an episode.

As for Thunder Cops, it's a Hong Kong drama (30 episodes) which I recently watched through tape rentals. I liked the series very much, which prompted me to create the banner you see.

At the beginning, watching chinese dramas was a task, considering that many of us don't understand the language. But I was hooked on chinese music several years back, so I exposed myself to the written language by visiting the sites that were for the most part completely written in chinese (traditional and simplified). Got hit w/ enough vocabulary that I could easily identify some of the chinese words. Several of the dramas that aired on KSCI, I would go rent to better understand the story if I really liked it.

I also had an advantage, since I rent chinese dramas dubbed in my language, and for the most part nearly all of them would display the chinese subtitles. I began associating my language w/ the written chinese language.
Then earlier this year, I began subtitling a Taiwan idol drama, Farewell Firefly, with the help of Mandy and Chieri, increasing my vocabulary further. And now I've been hooked on TW idol dramas, so been d/ling the tv-rips of those idol dramas which interest me that are currently airing in TW.

For MG2, I guess you didn't know about Mandy's transcript? Mandy began transcripting the drama while it was still currently airing in TW through the TV-rips she'd d/l and watch.

Mandy and I have specifically created a webpage dedicating to the transcripts for MG1, MG2, Peach Girl...as well as the synopses & character profiles of old and new TW idol dramas in english here: http://lunardreamz.fateback.com

Eric is most famous for his Princess Huai Yu drama (and that is one very very long drama...longer than the K-drama Home Sweet Home/On the Prairie). The series was aired here in SoCal 2-3 years ago.

Creidesca,

Thanks for all the info and the link to the transcript page for TW idol dramas. I definitely plan to check that out.

As for Princess Huai Yu, I may break down and buy (or rent if I could find a convenient rental store) it someday. The time period it's set in is not my favorite (in large part, because I don't like the way guys wore their hair then -- I'm shallow, I know), but I've heard it's good, so perhaps, enduring watching Eric Suen with a shaved head (he looks so much better with hair) would be worth it. emoticon Have you ever seen this drama?
