Re:

I am sorry, but I deleted everything I said in my last comment, but I will try to remember what I had said.

To me winning the Best actor in a Daily Drama is not that great an accomplishment when comparred to today's more serious TV shows and movies. I realize KIm Dong-Wan was in a very successful "boy's band", but that was in the past when he was much younger, and it did not matter whether he was shorter than his compatriots in the program. Besides several of his awards were in programs just from KBS shows and not in competition with the other networks. In my previous comment, I was referring to his future and not his past accomplishments. He does not have the looks or charisma of many of today's lead actors such as the actors in Iris2, That the Winter, the Wind Blows or Queen of Ambition. It does not mean that he would not be a top character actor which may suit me much better.

This is just my opinion, and I may be very wrong plus this could be my reaction to a show which goes beyond credibility and
unrealistic relationships.

One thing I don't like about TP is that he's so meek and let's that jerk Geonuk get away with all his snarky remarks and just plain rudeness!
TP please grow a pair! Well, I wonder what's going to happen now that Geonuk knows TP is the mom's real son? I really cannot see a happy ending in this family after all the backstabbing and lying that has occurred. I'm ready for this show to wrap already.

Just once it would be a relief for a drama to fall completely apart at the end. No happy endings for anyone. Just let them all go to pieces. Then have a fireworks show.

Re: K-Drama: 힘내요, 미스터 김! (Cheer Up, Mr. Kim!)

Why does TP stand there with his hands folded watching the family eat? I've never seen another housekeeper/cook do such a thing. He's so stupid looking most of the time!

And I would like to know what the objection to someone who is from N. Korea is. Juhui's mother said Chelryong was ok except that he was from the North. That makes him unsuitable. I swear, there are so many reasons one can be unsuitable.. ... a previous relationship; a divorce; having kids; no education; no money; someone else in your family did something wrong. Goes on and on.

Can you imagine what will be unsuitable about TP... to Teacher's family? No education, no money, no parents, no decent job, has kids... and wait til they find out about his mother, his father, his relationship to Geonuk..

As mean as Geonuk can act towards TP, I'm totally feeling his pain. It's pretty apparent that Geonuk wants his mother's love. He's hurt, angry and now getting revenge because she turned her back on him.

Because this is K-drama, TP & Ugyeong will end up together with everone's blessings and live happily ever after. No wonder he rejected Jiyeong, Ms. Lee is a much bigger fish. They want to keep their relationship a secret and then they embrace in front of her house where her Dad might see them. Duh!

I guess the objection to N. Koreans is mainly that they don`t have family and clan connections in the South and also lack money. I`ve met a few N. Koreans who have told me this is one of the main reasons they moved to the US, where social backround and family connections were less important.

Sherlesin: Thanks for that. Makes sense. Yeah, if a N Korean escapes and comes to the South, they leave behind all family connections. And we've seen enough of these dramas to know how important family is... along with money, education, purity...

Re: K-Drama: 힘내요, 미스터 김! (Cheer Up, Mr. Kim!)

On the question of North Koreans, it is a complex topic, many points Sherlesin covered. There was a point earlier in this series where it was questioned why Chinese immigrants of equal educational background for lower status jobs, even with lack of knowledge of the language compared to their NK counterparts (another hot topic issue in SK, and sometimes covered in the KBS Drama Specials) can get jobs that NK immigrants are rejected from, when on paper NK job seekers have the language advantage. Like any society, there are strains of prejudice, not to mention the recent historic conflict between both sides have created a rift culturally and in perception. Often, NK immigrants feel the prejudice due to the perception of being backwards with their different mannerisms and dialect with how South Koreans view them. Like in any society where the minority is shunned and can't integrate... sometimes some elements of that society turn to crime, which further stigmatizes that group. This is another hot button issue in SK with immigrants from other Asian countries not always welcomed in society, similar to the illegal immigration political issues over here in the US in the last few years.

Re: K-Drama: 힘내요, 미스터 김! (Cheer Up, Mr. Kim!)

Another issue is that a number of NK refugees have turned out to have been sent by the N. Korean government as spies in S. Korea. With all the Provocations that N. Korea rains down on Seoul (averaging more than 30 per year since the '90s), from torpedoing ships (resulting in great loss of life) to hacking and shutting down the electronic systems in Seoul (banking, subways, etc.), the issue of trust becomes a big one. Who wants their new son-in-law to turn out to be a NK spy?

Another thing, the policy of N. Korea is to punish defectors to the third generation. That being the case, why invite that possibility into your family? The N. Korean defectors are in a very difficult situation no matter which way they turn.
